How to Plan a Family-Friendly Winter Weekend in Cuyuna Lakes

Cuyuna Lakes is a winter wonderland perfect for families looking to make memories together. With plenty of outdoor fun, cozy spots to relax, and activities for all ages, it’s easy to plan a weekend everyone will enjoy. Here’s how to make the most of your visit.

Day 1: Arrive and Settle In

Start your trip with some snowy fun at Crosby Memorial Park. The kids will love building snowmen or having a snowball fight while you take in the beauty of the frozen lake. Afterward, check in at Cuyuna Lakes Stay, your cozy home base for the weekend.

In the evening, head to Coach’s Corner for a warm, hearty dinner. It’s the perfect way to refuel after a day in the cold. Wrap up the night with hot cocoa and a family game night back at your accommodations.

Day 2: Winter Adventures

Begin the day with a family snowshoeing or hiking trip at Cuyuna Country State Recreation Area. The trails are easy to navigate and offer breathtaking views of snow-draped forests and lakes. Bring along some snacks and a thermos of hot chocolate to enjoy along the way.

After lunch, try ice fishing at Louisa Mine Lake. It’s a peaceful and fun way to introduce kids to this classic Minnesota winter activity. Don’t forget to bundle up and pack some hand warmers!

End the day with a visit to Crosby Coffee Company for warm drinks and sweet treats. Their hot chocolate is a must-try for kids, and parents will love their coffee and pastries.

Day 3: Wrap-Up

On your last morning, explore downtown Crosby. Stop by Ripple River Gallery or Antiques & Artisans to pick up unique souvenirs or handmade gifts. Let the kids choose something special to remember the trip.

Before heading home, enjoy a final walk along a trail or a quiet moment by the lake to soak in the winter scenery. It’s the perfect way to end a magical weekend.

Tips for a Stress-Free Family Getaway

  1. Dress for the Weather: Layers are key! Make sure everyone has waterproof boots, gloves, and hats.
  2. Plan Downtime: Balance adventure with moments of relaxation to keep the trip fun for everyone.
  3. Take Photos: Capture the little moments that make this trip memorable—like a first snow angel or a cozy family dinner.
