Cuyuna Lakes is no longer Minnesota’s best-kept secret — it’s now one of the Midwest’s top destinations for mountain biking, paddleboarding, fishing, and quiet lakeside relaxation. Riders come for the red dirt trails that twist through forested mine lands and open up to clear mine pit lakes. Families come for kayaking, swimming, and exploring the small towns of Crosby and Deerwood.
But no adventure day is complete without a cozy, convenient place to rest your head — and that’s where Cuyuna Lakes Stay shines.
Located just blocks from the main trailhead, Cuyuna Lakes Stay puts you steps from your next ride or paddle. Unlike big resorts, it’s designed with flexibility in mind: whether you’re a solo biker, a couple on a fishing getaway, or a big family reunion, there’s a room or suite to match.
What guests love:
The rooms are simple but modern, with flat-screen TVs, blackout drapes for restful sleep, and kitchenettes in select units.
One of the best parts about Cuyuna Lakes Stay is the range of accommodations:
All setups are geared toward convenience for guests who spend most of their time outdoors but appreciate thoughtful touches when they return.
It’s the little things that turn a good stay into a memorable one. Cyclists love the secure bike storage and wash station — no muddy tires in the back of the car. Anglers appreciate the fish cleaning area, saving them a trip elsewhere. Fast WiFi means you can upload your trail photos and map tomorrow’s ride with ease.
And because adventure doesn’t always run on a strict schedule, having early check-in and mobile keys adds a layer of flexibility that larger hotels can’t always offer.
Cuyuna Lakes Stay sits right in Deerwood, less than a mile from the Cuyuna Country State Recreation Area trailhead. Crosby’s local restaurants, breweries, and bike shops are just minutes away. Guests can easily access Portsmouth Mine Pit Lake — Minnesota’s deepest lake — for diving or paddleboarding.
Nearby, you’ll find:
While the area buzzes with mountain bikers in summer and fall, winter brings its own charm. Fat biking, snowshoeing, and peaceful cabin stays are popular ways to enjoy the frosty trails and frozen lakes.
Spring is ideal for beating the crowds and seeing the trails come back to life. No matter the season, early booking is always a good idea — the Cuyuna region continues to grow in popularity.
✔ Book early for summer weekends: The area draws riders and paddlers from all over the Midwest.

✔ Leave no trace: Help keep the trails and lakes beautiful for everyone.
✔ Support local businesses: Try a new café, brewery, or local shop while you’re here!
Guests appreciate that Cuyuna Lakes Stay isn’t a one-size-fits-all chain hotel. The rooms are practical, clean, and comfortable — exactly what you need to recharge after a big day outside. The location makes last-minute trail runs or sunset paddles easy, and the friendly check-in and simple amenities help keep your focus where it belongs: on making memories outside.
